sLiterary Initiatives
sLiterary Initiatives are our cutting-edge programs that explore how best to innovate and further the arts in virtual worlds.
Essence of Art in Virtual Worlds
Art in virtual worlds is an evolving matter that is continuously being defined by emerging new media artists. To help new media artists, sLiterary provides both commissions and key locales for showcasing new artwork. Short-term workspace is also provided via the Studio Sandbox in Primtings.
The Classics in Virtual Worlds
Virtual worlds provide a natural environment for the interdisciplinary and interactive exploration of literature and the classics. By creating virtual immersive 3d exhibits, participants can literally step into storybooks or the world of the classics. Research has suggested that courses and other sessions relating to the classics held in such environments help engage and stimulate the minds of the audience. sLiterary’s Classics in Virtual Worlds initiative helps provide well-created virtualizations of the classics for both recreational and educational purposes.
Fiction in Virtual Worlds
In the words of Jackline Hugo, Editor Emeritus of sLiterary Magazine, “Fiction is a worldly thing, molded by the reality of the world it exists in,” and from this we explore the depths of a new genre of fiction in this brave new worlds—metaverse fiction, or the fiction that has to do with virtual worlds. Often a dynamic interplay between real life and Second Life (and other virtual worlds), each story is ultimately the human story. Through sLiterary Magazine, we commission the creation of new metaverse fiction (by paying industry-standard rates for fiction), and display them innovative ways in sLiterary Art & Writing Gallery, harnessing the potential of 3d worlds.
Outreach
sLiterary strives to help individuals new or not yet established in the art & writing spheres of virtual worlds by offering them both reduced-cost private display spaces, and several dedicated galleries with open-submission policies. In addition, we also help RL literary and arts organizations spread their mission on Second Life and other virtual worlds.
Virtual Reality Shakespeare Initiative
sLiterary’s Virtual Reality Shakespeare Initiative (VRSI) seeks ways in which the study and appreciation of Shakespeare and his works can be effectively conveyed and enhanced through virtual reality.
